Everyone's definition of success is different. The way I describe it has changed throughout the years. If you ask me now...as a tired Mami of two...I'd say that success is getting out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off, drinking my coffee while it's still hot, and having the bathroom to myself just to name a few. I'm just kidding...kind of.
Many people define success as living a life of fame and or money. Having interned for a TV network and a music label gave me a glimpse of how the lives of some celebrities are like. It made me realize that while there are many perks to it not everything is what it appears to be. The same can be said about life outside the spotlight. Take social media, for example. For some people it's so easy to get caught up in the pictures and videos that are on their feeds causing them to feel bad about themselves and their own success. Comparing ourselves to others and wishing we had whatever it is we think we lack isn't going to help us succeed. It's actually going to encumber us from learning, growing, and ultimately accomplishing our goals.
Everyone has a chance to be successful. It's just a matter of perspective and habit. What does success look like to you? What are some of the things you do to accomplish your goals and succeed? These are the habits I strive to maintain to feel and be successful in my life when setting and accomplishing goals.
Habits of a Successful Woman
She educates herself
With or without an academic education, a woman should always have the desire to learn and apply herself to do so. I feel a sense of pride and fulfillment whenever I learn something new. Ask questions, do your research, and share the knowledge that you've acquired with others.
She sets goals and challenges herself to accomplish them
Knowing what you want out of life isn't always easy. Neither is turning those dreams into reality, once you've figured out what you want to pursue. It takes time and effort. Setting general goals may help create a clearer vision to then set more specific ones. Start off with simple tasks like creating healthy and productive habits that will help you start and follow through with your goals. Staying organized and keeping track of your progress will also help you stay inspired and motivated every step of the way.
She creates her own opportunities
Sometimes we get in our own way and find ourselves stumbling over hurdles rather than opening new doors. Whether it's because of a lack of self-confidence, motivation, or resources like not having a team or funds to start a new business for example the opportunity to try and start is there. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. As we all know, success doesn't happen on it's own. It usually takes stepping out of our comfort zone, changing our mindset, and attitude to make a difference in our life.
She empowers herself as well as other women
The road ahead when setting goals and accomplishing them to reach the success you desire is never easy nor short. Rather than comparing yourself to other women and creating a competition in your mind, allow yourself to feel inspired by them and their journey. Believe in yourself and the possibility of achieving your own goals. Then spread that same energy with other women to lift each other up.
She celebrates the wins along the way
Celebrate the milestones you come across throughout your journey. After all, you've earned them. Rather than just waiting for the big wins, acknowledge the steps you've taken thus far which serve as motivation to continue working your way through your goals. The little wins are reminders that you're on the right track and that everything is falling into place.
